Japanese Language Proficiency Test and tips Bryenne learned this year

Apr 16, 2021

Hello, my name is Bryenne & I'm on the design team here at Aimily! I joined the team earlier this year after meeting Irina at a design event in which she was explaining her concept. It sounded really cool, because I was in the middle of setting a big goal for myself, one that I've actually failed at once or twice before. Passing a Japanese Language Proficiency Test. I've made every excuse 50 times why I haven't done it yet even though it's super important to me. Talking & working with Irina really helped me stay accountable & like it was actually, potentially possible to achieve my goal. One thing interesting perspective I get while working towards something and working on Aimily, is how to deal with the dip in motivation & confidence. It can be challenging but usually pretty fun to start dreaming big with goals, but you don't usually stay on cloud 9 forever. Handling doubt & fatigue is....dramatically less fun but still a really important thing to consider! It's all part of the process, regardless of the magnitude of the goal.

Tips I have learned this year:

  • make a broad overview list that gives you perspective on the big picture

  • make a weekly/daily list to give yourself focus & manageable tasks

  • prepare for bad moods! It's ok to have them, to not want to stay on track or have a lazy day, but the most important part is not to turn a lazy day into a week, a month. Let yourself wallow, then move on.

  • make it enjoyable. I have special cute pens I use only for practicing writing Japanese & I love them. I loooove my desk space.

Try to remember the little bumps in the road will soon be forgotten. Stay strong & have a great day!
